OUR PROJECTS

WHEN NATURE AND COMMUNITY COME TOGETHER

Caracara Ridge Nature Reserve Trail

Location: Ojochal, Costa Rica
Project Type: Low-impact Nature Trail
Year: 2024

Winding through a 15-acre (≈6-hectare) private nature reserve, this 1.6 km low-impact trail follows gentle ridgelines and drops to a shaded river bend where a small waterfall tumbles into clear pools. Designed to “fit the land,” the path threads rainforest, river edges, large primary forest trees, and wildlife corridors, offering chances to spot toucans, aracaris, howlers, and blue morpho butterflies. This is a self-guided walk meant for quiet connection—short enough for a morning outing, rich enough to feel immersed in the forest.

How to participate:  Donate $50 per km of trail or contact us if you have private land and want trails!

Installing a monkey bridge

Wildlife Canopy Crossings

Location: Ojochal
Project Type: Monkey Bridges to Recconect Corridors
Year: 2025

What began with a few neighbors concerned about monkeys facing a broken treetop corridor became a hands-on conservation effort. With ICE (Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad), Community Carbon Trees, and local residents, three canopy “monkey bridges” were installed and native trees were planted to help the forest reconnect naturally.

We installed three wildlife-safe crossings linking Phase 6 → Caracara Ridge → Phase 5 & Phase 10, and added native tree plantings so a living canopy can take over. The result: safer passage for howlers, sloths, and birds—and stronger habitat connectivity for the whole area.

How to participate: contact OTA to sponsor a bridge or schedule a site visit to access new locations for canopy crossings.
